The first Loanhead Children's Day was staged in 1903 although it has links to earlier events in the town. The crowning of a School Queen was introduced in 1904 and, with the exception of a Children's Day in 1918 just prior to the end of the First World War, this ceremony has remained the central feature of the event ever since.
