2010 Events
The 2010 programme for Midlothian’s oldest and largest local festival features 18 separate events over a period of 9 days, offering a huge range of activities and entertainment for all ages. With the exception of the adult 5-a-side football competition and the Senior Citizens’ Tea Dance, admission to all events is free. Covered seating is available for all events at Fountain Green.

Moves off from Kennington Avenue at 7.30 pm. Floats, decorated vehicles and hundreds of characters in fancy dress, accompanied by 7 bands. Judging of individual fancy dress classes, from 6.30 pm at foot of Kennington Avenue.

Sunday 20 June FAMILY FUN RUN

Organised by Loanhead Community Learning Centre. Starts from Loanhead Community Learning Centre, Mayburn Walk. Entrants should enrol from 10.30 am. Run starts at 11.00 am. Please note, no registration fee is payable this year and entry to the Fun Run is free for everyone. Medals will be awarded to all runners who complete the course.

Rantum Scantum are Bobby Nicholson, a folk singer songwriter from Fife and Eddy Hanson, a classically trained violinist from Yorkshire. They have been working together for over 12 years and have performed extensively throughout Europe, featuring their own songs plus new versions of old ones. Also appearing will be groups of talented young musicians from the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music based at Plockton High School, Ross-shire.

Friday 25 June PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ PROCESSION & JOINT SCHOOLS’ ASSEMBLY

The procession headed by MacTaggart Scott Loanhead Band will move off from Paradykes Primary School at 10.00 am proceeding by Mayburn Walk, Mayburn Avenue and Fountain Place. The pupils of Loanhead and St Margaret’s Schools will then join the parade which will proceed by Clerk Street to Fountain Green.

At Fountain Green the Court Principals for 2010 will be introduced and musical entertainment featuring Fischy Music will be provided. At 11.45 am the procession will reform and will proceed to the Memorial Park by Church Street and Burghlee Terrace. On arrival at the Memorial Park refreshments will be distributed to all schoolchildren.
   
Friday 25 June CHILDREN’S SPORTS

Memorial Park, commencing 1.00 pm. See separate pages for full list of sports events. During the afternoon ice cream will be provided free for all of the children. Two roundabouts and a Giant Slide will be in the park during the afternoon for the free use of children attending the Sports.

Fountain Green at 7.30 pm. Featuring the Sound of Seventeen Big Band. If you have attended the Brass in the Park event in recent years you will probably be familiar with this band which has performed to great acclaim as part of the Sunday afternoon programme there. The band is based in Edinburgh and plays a wide range of Big Band music including songs made famous by Frank Sinatra. This popular band has performed at a number of European festivals and is guaranteed to play a lively, fun programme of music. Free admission. Collection in aid of Gala funds.

Heat and Sclater trophies. view photos
9.00 am Collection of members of the Court from their homes commences.
9.30 am Collection of Queen Elect from her home in Park View.
9.45 am Collection of Retiring Queen from her home in Mayburn Grove.
10.30 am The various groups accompanied by the bands move off from St Margaret’s Hall, Clerk Street and proceed by Clerk Street and Church Street to Fountain Green.
10.45 am Crowning Ceremony on Fountain Green. This will be followed by the Mining Memorial Ceremony.
12.00 noon The Grand Procession moves off from Church Street view photos. This is Midlothian’s largest annual parade and this year it will be accompanied by 11 bands.
12.45 pm The Grand Procession arrives at the Memorial Park.
1.00 pm Commencement of Afternoon Programme of Entertainment in the Memorial Park. Admission to the Memorial Park is free. The programme of entertainment in the park features:-
